Melanoma

What is Melanoma?

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that develops in the melanocytes, the cells that produce pigment in the skin. Melanoma can be caused by exposure to UV radiation from the sun or tanning beds, as well as genetic factors. Early detection and treatment are important for improving the prognosis of melanoma.

When is it necessary to see a doctor?

If you have an unusual skin lesion or mole that is changing in shape or color, it's important to see a doctor to determine if it's cancerous and receive appropriate treatment to prevent further skin damage and potential spread to other parts of the body. Treatment may involve surgery to remove the melanoma and surrounding tissue, as well as chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
